National Day Celebrations 2026
Junyuan Primary School marked Singapore’s 61st year of independence with great enthusiasm on 7 August 2026. The National Day celebration featured an Observance Ceremony and vibrant performances presented by our various CCA performing groups, our team that went on an Overseas Learning Journey (OLJ) to Brunei and our Parent Support Group (PSG).
As a prelude to the National Day celebration, the P5 CCE Ambassadors brought the school through the history of the National Pledge, facilitating a short quiz on the National Pledge as we commemorated 60 years of its inception.
The National day celebration began with the solemn Observance Ceremony led by the Cub Scouts and Prefects. During the Observance Ceremony, the Cub Scouts marched in with pride and dignity, while the Prefects led the school in paying solemn respect to the nation as the National Anthem was sung and the National Pledge recited.
The Observance Ceremony was concluded with the sharing of the National Day Recollections. The sharing reminded us of our road to independence and to appreciate how far we have come as a nation.
Thereafter, the National Day video message by the Minister of Education, Mr Desmond Lee, was presented to the school. The message reflected on Singapore's journey, community strength, and the importance of keeping the Singapore spirit resilient.
Following that, the P5 Student Leaders recounted their NE Show experience at the National Stadium on 11 July 2026. They also presented a video interview with Lieutenant Colonel Firdaus Ghazali, a JYPS alumnus who served as the Parade Commander for Singapore’s historic SG60 National Day Parade at the Padang last year. LTC Ghazali returned to JYPS on 2 July 2026 for an engagement session with the Primary 4 and 5 students, where he spoke about the history of the National Day Parade, the significance of this year’s theme, “Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond!”, and how students can “Go Beyond” in their daily lives. In the interview, he also reflected on his role as Parade Commander and fond memories as a JYPS student.
The National Day celebration continued with a vibrant line-up of performances and sing-alongs, including “Giants”, “Here We Are” and “The Road Ahead”, as well as the spirited Primary 2 PALS NDP cheers. The Drama Club presented “Choices That Build Harmony”, while the OLJ team and Modern Dance captivated the audience with dances titled, “From Singapore, With Love” and “Dream Big, Go Beyond” respectively. A highlight was the PSG’s mini National Day Parade, featuring creative handmade displays of mobile columns presented by the parent volunteers and the students. The Music Interest Club further delighted the audience with “Dayung Sampan” and “Not Alone”. The concert culminated in a heartwarming rendition of “Home”, accompanied by OLJ students signing the lyrics, followed by a rousing mass sing-along led by our teacher emcees, Mrs Sarah Quek and Mr Muru. The celebration brought the whole school community together in joy and pride as we marked Singapore’s 61st birthday.
The celebration continued in the classrooms where students were engaged in classroom activities. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the National Pledge, the Primary 1 to 6 students acted out the values in the pledge through Freeze Frame and Inside-Outside circle activities. These activities allowed them to imagine and showcase how they can live out the values in the National Pledge.
The National Day Celebration actively engaged students, staff and parent volunteers, inspiring the “Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond!” spirit in us as we came together as one school community to celebrate our nation’s birthday.
