Racial Harmony Day Commemoration 2026: “Our People, Our Tapestry”
This year, Junyuan Primary School commemorated Racial Harmony Day (RHD) through the appreciation of Singapore’s cultural diversity and social harmony. Themed “Our People, Our Tapestry,” the commemoration encouraged students to appreciate our diversity and recognize how everyone can play a part in strengthening social cohesion and our shared identity. The event began with two days of recess activities on 21 and 22 July, where students took part in various meaningful activities.
At the Assembly Area, students had fun participating in the “Harmony Action Games” where they tried their hands (and feet) at classic games such as chapteh and hopscotch. Nearby, the popular karaoke booth, “Voice of Harmony” saw enthusiastic students participating in their diverse groups, as they bonded through the singing of community songs. The students gathered to belt out familiar tunes that celebrate friendship and unity.
The canteen came alive with excitement as students gathered at the “Hands-On Harmony” booth in culturally mixed groups to try traditional games like five stones and kuti-kuti. Playing side by side, they learnt the value of collaboration and mutual appreciation—a hands-on experience that beautifully reflected our diverse national identity.
The lively “RHD Buzz!” and “Harmony Memory” game booths saw students putting their knowledge of the different cultures in Singapore to good use. Working in racially diverse groups, the P1 and P2 students solved memory-matching games focusing on the traditional attire and food of the different races. Students from P3 to P6 worked with their peers from different races to win a Jeopardy-inspired game, facilitated by our CCE Ambassadors and parent volunteers.
We were delighted to welcome students from Pathlight School and MOE Kindergarten @ Junyuan as well as those from Wuzhong Experimental School, Suzhou China, through the Immersion Programme, to join us for the recess activities. The event successfully fostered friendship and unity among students from diverse school backgrounds through collaborative learning and cultural exchanges.
During the assembly period on Thursday, 23 July, a captivating assembly show titled “Crossroads of Cultures” brought students on a creative journey as they explored the nuances of racial and religious harmony in Singapore through role play and insightful and lively discussions. Through storytelling and performance, the show allowed students to think about how they can help to promote understanding and inclusiveness.
At Junyuan Primary, we are dedicated to nurturing thoughtful individuals who value diversity and promote social harmony. Commemorating Racial Harmony Day reminded us that weaving our diverse cultures together with kindness is what makes our community stronger and closer.
